In August of 1994, the Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the
RAS made the decision to institute a publishing house. The initial task was to
organize the issue of scientific journals founded by the Siberian Branch. To
provide the high-quality polygraph of the journals and books, a printing works
has been set up. Since 1995, the Publishing House has issued nine scientific
journals of the Siberian Branch:
“Optoelectronics, Instrumentation and Data Processing” (Avtometriya),
“Humanitarian Sciences in Siberia” (Gumanitarnye Nauki v Sibiri), “Journal of
Structural Chemistry” (Zhurnal Strukturnoi Khimii), "Chemistry for Sustainable
Development" (Khimiya v interesah ustoichivogo razvitiya), "Thermophysics and
Aeromechanics" (Termofizika i ayeromekhanika), Combustion, Explosion and Shock
Waves (Fizika Goreniya i Vzryva), "Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical
Physics" (Prikladnaya mekhanika i tekhnicheskaya fizika), “Region: Economics and
Sociology” (Region: Ekonomika i Sotsiologiya), and Siberian Ecological Journal (Sibirskii
Ekologicheskii Zhurnal). In 1997, this list was supplemented with the journal
Fiziko- "Journal of Mining Sciences" (Fiziko-tekhnicheskiye problemy razrabotki
poleznykh iskopayemykh)
In 1995, a book
editor's office was established in the Publishing House, which set about the
issue of scientific literature according to the general thematic plan for
publishing scientific monographs of the Siberian Branch and particular plans of
the institutes. In the same year, a department for subscription and distribution
started to function, which has since intimately cooperated with agencies that
distribute scientific periodicals, libraries, and educational and scientific
institutions in Russia and abroad.
In 1995, together with
publishing centers of the Siberian Branch institutes, the Publishing House
initiated the foundation of the Associated Publishing House of the Siberian
Branch of the RAS. Among others, the association included: Publishing House of
the Siberian Branch of the RAS, Scientific-Publishing Centre of the United
Institute of Geology, Geophysics and Mineralogy of the Siberian Branch, which
issues the journal “Russian Geology and Geophysics” (Geologiya i Geofizika) and
monographs on geosciences, and the Publishing House of the Yakutian Scientific
Center. The declared goals of the association are: progressive development of
its members; better work performances; invitation of experts to cooperatively
solve urgent research, engineering, and management problems.
Since 1997, the Scientific-Publishing Center of the United Institute of Geology,
Geophysics and Mineralogy has issued two more scientific journals: “Geography
and Natural Resources (Geografiya i Prirodnye Resursy) and “Earth's Cryosphere”
(Kriosphera Zemli)”.
In 2000, with a
view to further progress in publishing policy of the Siberian Branch, another
book editor's office was organized in the Publishing House of the Siberian
Branch; the Scientific-Publishing Centre of the United Institute of Geology,
Geophysics and Mineralogy and the Publishing House of the Yakutian Scientific
Centre were transformed into the "Geo" and Yakutian affiliated branches of the
Publishing House of the Siberian Branch of the RAS, respectively.
At present, the Publishing House consists of eleven journal and five book
editor's offices, which edit and prepare to publishing manuscripts in a very
wide range of scientific disciplines (physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology,
ecology, medicine, geosciences, economics, sociology, philosophy, law,
archaeology, history, and philology). The Marketing Department of the Publishing
House is distributing 20 scientific journals, which are issued by the Siberian
Branch institutes and Novosibirsk universities and find their readers in Russia
and abroad.
Our main activities include the publication of scientific, scientific-popular,
and educational issues. The Publishing House of the Siberian Branch of the RAS
is one of the basic publishing houses of the Russian National Scientific
Foundation and Russian Foundation for Basic Research. For the period from 2001
to 2003, the Publishing House won ten grants in the competitions of the Federal
Project of Book Printing in Russia. In 2002, the Publishing House received a
diploma and was awarded Gold Medal of the Siberian Fair at the exhibition
"Siberian Book-2002" for support and promotion of special popular scientific
literature to international book markets. The books and journals of the
Publishing House of the Siberian Branch of the RAS are always present at stands
of the yearly international book fairs in Moscow and Frankfurt-on-Maine.
