defects and inhomogeneities.
Shabanov V. F., Vetrov S. Ya., Shabanov A. V. ,
– Novosibirsk, Publishing House of Siberian Branch of Russian
Academy of Sciences, 2005. – 240 p.
ISBN
5-7692-0737-X
The book is devoted to modern optics of photonic crystals, to
theoretical and experimental data on such structures. It fills the
gap in the description of optical properties of photonic structures,
built with liquid crystals or including LCs as defects. Propagation
of electromagnetic waves, theory of modes localized at structural
defects and surface waves are considered. Authors consider effects
of defects, impurities and inhomogeneities on
transmission and reflection spectra, fluorescence and nonlinear
optics in the band gap regions of photonic crystals: flat-layered
media, cholesteric liquid crystals, including encapsulated
cholesterics.
Book
will be of value to scientists – specialists in
optics and spectroscopy of condensed matter and solid state physics,
as well as to students and post-graduates of physical and
engineering specialties. |

176 p. (in Russian)
The monograph deals with specificity as concerns the development of
erosion processes under conditions of sharply continental climate.
There have been revealed the regularities of formation of thawing
waters and soil erosion in different bioclimatic belts. Seasonal
frost regime of eroded soils has been in detail outlined for the
first time. There have been also revealed the influence of the depth

Mechanochemistry of
natural and synthetic apatites.
Chaikina M.V. - Novosibirsk: Publ. House of SB RAS, Branch
«Geo», 2002. - 223 p. (in Russian)
The monograph deals with the regularities of structural
transformations, changes of physicochemical properties, and chemical
interactions of isomophous modifications of natural and synthetic
apatites in multi-component
phosphate-containing systems under the mechanical action in
planetary mills and other powerful devices.
The monograph presents original results of systematic investigations
into structural, chemical transformations by electron microscopy
indentation zones in apatite and quartz single crystals as a model
of grinding and mechanical activation of solids. The «shake wave»
model of the transformation of the mechanical energy to chemical and
other types of energy is proposed. On the basis of the
investigations into the equilibrium in phosphate-calcium aqueous
systems and into the chemical composition of natural apatites of
phosphate ores, a structure-chemical classification of apatites is
proposed. The ways to govern mechanical activation and optimal
conditions of mechanical treatment are shown for specific
mineralogical types of phosphate ores, which will permit them to use
for the purpose of using them as commercial phosphate fertilizer.
The data are presented on the mechanochemical synthesis of
isomorphous modifications of apatite crystals with broad range of
substitutions obtained directly in activators.
The monograph is intended for researchers, chemists, geochemists,
and technologists. It will be useful for students and postgraduates
of chemical technological higher school. |

Electromagnetic defectoscopy of casing strings in oil and gas
boreholes
Epov M.I., Morozova G.M., and Antonov E.Yu. / Edited by Prof.
V.S. Mogilatov. Novosibirsk, Publishing House of SB RAS, Branch
«Geo», 2002. 102 p. (in Russian)
Theoretical and methodical background of the electromagnetic method
of eddy current intended for defectoscopy of casing strings and
estimation of strains in the vicinity of a borehole are considered.
The solution has been proposed to a problem of transient
electromagnetic field of a current loop in a conducting magnetic
cylindrically layered medium. The problem is solved for idealized
physicomathematical model such as a system of coaxial cylindrical
films relevant to a multistring construction. The approximate
solution is given to a problem for a 2D-model that is nonuniform in
conductivity on the base of the Born approximation. Algorithms for
log inversion have been constructed, and the accuracy of
determination of casing string parameters has been estimated.
Electromagnetic method to estimate strain variations in the
near-borehole geological space has been validated physically. It has
been shown that the values of natural strains in rocks are
comparable with acting strains when investigating the magnetoelastic
effect in ferromagnets. The sensitivity of transient signals to
magnetic permeability of metal casing strings has been determined.
The book is intended for researchers dealing with the problems of
distribution of electromagnetic fields in the earth, oil
geophysicists, and log tool designers. |

Tectonics and
petroleum potential of the Mesozoic-Cainozoic deposits of the
South-eastern regions of West Siberia.
Kontorovich V.A. - Novosibirsk: Publishing House of SB
RAS, Branch «Geo», 2002. 253 p. (in Russian)
The tectonic structure and petroleum potential of the south-eastern
West Siberian Province are considered. Voluminous information on
seismic exploration and deep drilling conducted in the last decades
was generalized. Regional synthetic seismic profiles were first
constructed and their seismostratigraphic interpretation was made.
The structural maps were compiled and described for the major
reflecting horizons in the Meso-Cenozoic sedimentary cover. Based on
statistic analysis of morphometric information, proposals were
formulated for refining the criteria for classification of tectonic
structures as applied to the young platform areas. The scheme of the
tectonic structure of the Jurassic structural stage was compiled and
described in detail for the south-eastern regions of the West
Siberian geosynclines. On the basis of statistic, paleotectonic,
seismofacies, and dynamic approaches and using the apparatus of
mathematical modelling of the wave fields, methodical techniques
were developed for detecting and mapping the complexly structured
oil- and gas-promising targets in the Jurassic reservoirs different
in structure and genesis. The regularities of distribution of
hydrocarbon accumulations and criteria for predicting the petroleum
potential of some reservoirs were considered. Proposals for the
trends in geologic exploration were elaborated.
The work is of interest for scientists, geologists, geophysicists,
post-graduates, and students who specialize in the field of geology
and development of oil and gas fields. |

Stratigraphy of oil
and gas basins of Siberia. Cainozoic of Western Siberia.
Volkova V.S., Arkhipov S.A., Babushkin A.E. et al. -
Novosibirsk: Publ. House of SB RAS, Branch «Geo», 2002. - 246 p. (in Russian)
This book is the latest analytical review of three Cenozoic systems
- Paleogene, Neogene, and Quaternary. The material of Cenozoic
stratigraphy is generalized. Stratigraphic schemes, a new generation
of regional Cenozoic stratigraphic scales of Western Siberia, are
constructed. New groups of fossil organisms, paleomagnetic and
physic methods are used to provide a more detailed and reliable
stratigraphy and correlation of regional and global scales. This
review includes analysis of the present-day state of the knowledge
of the Cenozoic stratigraphy and also new materials on bio- and
lithostratigraphy and paleontology of Western Siberia. The scale of
the marine Paleogene is based on the evolution of dinoflagellate
species. Zonal subdivisions are correlated with strata of European
Russia and Western Europe. The general lithological, mineralogical,
and biostratigraphic characteristics of local stratigraphic unites
are given. The boundaries of biostratigraphic unites, based on
dinoflagellate, are correlated with spores and pollen ones. Basis
Neogene horizons are described and correlated with the standard
Mediterranean scale. The history of vegetation and its role for the
definition of paleogeographic and geological boundaries of Neogene
are considered. Quantitative estimations of the Pliocene optimal
climate and its significance for climatic forecasts are listed for
the first time. Stratigraphy of Quaternary deposits is as detailed
as the World ocean oxygen-isotope scale.
The book can be used as a handbook of notions of the Cenozoic
stratigraphy of Western Siberia, which had formed by the end of the
second millennium. It designed for geologists, lecturers, and
post-graduates concerned with the Cenozoic deposits of Western
Siberia. |
